One week later...

A week has passed since we arrived and what a week it's been! We are camping in our near-empty house until the container arrives mid-August. We have the basics and cannot complain at all, it's an adventure. Ryk and I passed our written driver's licence tests and will do the driving test in 2 weeks. Yesterday we went to the coast for an afternoon of swimming, surfing and a fish'n'chips supper on Malibu Beach. Daniel scraped his leg on the rocks but we all had a great time.

We are here!

Here we are , 18 months after we first decided to chase the dream in America. Many months of praying and planning have brought us to the airport on 24 July , ready (some not so ready) to embark on the next great adventure in our lives. We had a delayed departure due to inclement weather ( that is sooo England, but I'll miss it!) and got under way an hour late. The rest of the flight was uneventful and we arrived in LA at 8pm. Frans and Christa were there to pick up a travel weary family, a cat and assorted bags and luggage. We were taken straight to our new home in Panorama City where we just collapsed in a heap for some much needed sleep only to be woken up a short time later by a very awake Daniel...ah...the joys of jetlag! Over the next few days we have spent hours in the pool in our backyard, opened a bank account, found a supermarket, met many many new people at church and generally tried to figure out where we were (and why we were here!)

Last photo taken before boarding the plane at Heathrow

Very tired family in new house - reunited with beloved Snuggles cat who had safe journey too

We wait alongside the "kerb" with our heap of luggage outside LAX airport. It is about 9pm and 24 degrees celcius.

Walking to church 5 minutes away from our frontdoor

Here he is!.... just where he wanted to be and worked for, for such a long time. We pray that God will bless our time in California
and prepare us for a lifetime serving Him.

Pastor Rick off to LA

Saying goodbye after evening service. Rick left the next day for a trip to LA, to exactly the same place we'll be going soon. He is doing his Doctorate and needs to catch up with his tutors at seminary every 6 months. We'll be gone by the time he gets back but we will see him again in January. Rumour had it that he was secretly going to attend the Michael Jackson funeral (not!)

Wimbledon and other british goodness

Big bowl of Kentish strawberries...the best in the world!! Can't watch Wimbledon without them. Of course it also helped lovely lovely Roger win his umpteenth title :)

Francois and Elsie - his honorary grandmother, who cooked us a proper British Sunday roast dinner, including the biggest Yorkshire pudding I've ever seen.

Graduation Day

On Saturday, Daniel officially graduated from Barham Pre-school. We had a lovely picnic on the playing field with the other families while the children were entertained by a rather hopeless magician.

Another week of Goodbyes

The Girls from church took me out for a goodbye supper at Chapter Eight last Friday. Lots and lots of eating and laughing , loads of memories to take with me!

Go for it Tracey! Nibble that noodle! Group photo at Dover-by-night Harbour. We had to take a long walk to work off the all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet!

Fourth birthday...so soon?

For various reasons which I won't bore you with, Daniel's 4th birthday was brought forward with a month or so...
Last Sunday he celebrated the big day with 10 friends at an English Castle (okay then, an indoor playcentre that looks like a castle)

Me and my big brothers! I am FOUR now!
